Mit eurer Hilfe kann mein großer Wunsch in Erfüllung gehen: mit Ocean College um die halbe Welt zu segeln!  (english version below)

Was genau ist Ocean College?

Ocean College ist ein Auslandsjahr der besonderen Art. Viele nennen es auch das „segelnde Klassenzimmer”. Mit Ocean College fahren jedes Jahr ca. 30 Jugendliche auf einem Traditionssegler um die halbe Welt. Quer über den Atlantik bis nach Panama, Costa Rica und zurück. Das Besondere dabei: das Schiff ist gleichzeitig eine Schule. (Mehr Infos unter: https://oceancollege.eu) Und nun darf ich einer dieser glücklichen 30 Jugendlichen sein und bald schon die große Reise antreten :)

Wie bin ich zu Ocean College gekommen?

Irgendwann hat mir mein Opa einen Zeitungsartikel über einen Jungen geschickt, der mit einem Schulsegelschiff über die Weltmeere gesegelt ist. Davon war ich sofort begeistert und habe mich weiter darüber informiert. Bei meinen Recherchen bin ich dann auf Ocean College gestoßen. Auf deren Website habe ich gesehen, dass sie im Sommer einen einwöchigen Segeltörn anbieten. Dafür habe ich mich sofort angemeldet. Als ich zurückkam war klar: ich will unbedingt die lange Reise mitmachen.

Die Bewerbungsfrist war bereits abgelaufen. Aber ich hatte Glück! Kurz nach dem Sommertörn erhielten wir einen Anruf: es war ein Platz freigeworden für die Reise in diesem Winter! Wie aufregend! Und das persönlich ganz Besondere für mich ist: die Reise startet am Geburtstag meiner vor drei Jahren verstorbenen Oma und endet am 85. Geburtstag von meinem Opa. Ich denke, das ist ein gutes Zeichen:)

Nun bedeutet das für meine Familie und mich, dass wir innerhalb weniger Wochen alles für die große Reise organisieren müssen und dass wir gemeinsam daran arbeiten, das Geld zusammen zu bekommen. Hierbei bitte ich um eure Unterstützung!

Kurz zu mir: Ich bin 15 Jahre alt, lebe in Berlin und bin ein sehr unternehmungslustiger und sportlicher Mensch. Ich liebe Herausforderungen und das Reisen. Außerdem spiele ich leidenschaftlich gerne Fußball und mache Taekwondo. Im Moment freue ich mich sehr auf das große Abenteuer vor mir und bin auch ein bisschen aufgeregt. Wie wird es sein, so lange von meiner Familie und meinen Freunden getrennt zu sein? Wie wird unsere Gemeinsschaft auf dem Schiff? Was werde ich alles lernen und mit nach Hause zurückbringen?

Was machen wir noch während der Reise?

Auf dem Schiff wird nicht nur gelernt und gesegelt, sondern auch gefischt und geforscht. Wir lernen den Lebensraum Ozean kennen und wie wir ihn erhalten können. Bessere Ressourcennutzung, Konsumverhalten und der Schutz von Natur und Kultur stehen immer im Fokus.

Wir lernen andere Kulturen kennen, besuchen indigene Völker im Regenwald und erleben, was es für sie bedeutet, wenn Regenwald abgeholzt wird. Wir lernen außerdem, Verantwortung zu übernehmen, üben uns in Eigenständigkeit und Teamfähigkeit. Die neuen Herausforderungen für mich werden sein: in Extremsituationen Entscheidungen treffen, mithilfe der Sterne zu navigieren, Segel in 30m Höhe setzen, Nachtwachen an Board, auf engem Raum leben und Konflikte lösen. Auch mit den unangenehmen Dingen, wie Heimweh, Stürme oder Seekrankheit werde ich sicherlich umgehen lernen.

Aber auf all das freue ich mich und kann es kaum erwarten!

Einen Teil der hohen Kosten für diese große Reise kann meine Familie aufbringen. Für den anderen Teil bitte ich euch an dieser Stelle um eure Unterstützung. Jeder Euro zählt!

With your help, my big dream can come true: sailing halfway around the world with Ocean College! 

 What exactly is Ocean College?

Ocean College is a special kind of year abroad. Many people call it the ‘sailing classroom’. Every year, Ocean College takes around 30 young people halfway around the world on a traditional sailing ship. Across the Atlantic Ocean to Panama, Costa Rica and back. The very special thing about it: this ship is also a school! (More information at: https://oceancollege.eu) And now I get to be one of those 30 lucky young people and will soon be setting off on the big journey :)

 How did I find out about Ocean College?

At some point, my grandfather sent me a newspaper article about a boy who sailed across the oceans on a school sailing ship. I was immediately excited and found out more about it. During my research, I came across Ocean College. On their website, I saw that they also offer a one-week sailing trip in the summer. I signed up for it right away. When I came back, it was clear: I definitely wanted to go on the long voyage. 

The application deadline had already passed. But I was lucky! Shortly after the summer trip, we received a call: a place had become available for the trip this winter! How exciting! And what makes it very special for me personally is that the trip starts on the birthday of my grandmother, who died three years ago, and ends on my grandfather’s 85th birthday. I think that’s a good sign!

For my family and me, this means that we have to organise everything for the big trip within a few weeks and that we have to work together to raise the money. I am asking for your support in this!

A little bit about me: I am a  15 years old boy, living in Berlin. I am a very adventurous and athletic person and I love challenges and travelling. I also love playing football and practising taekwondo. At the moment, I am really looking forward to the big adventure ahead of me and am also a little excited. What will it be like to be away from my family and friends for so long? What will our community on the ship be like? What will I learn and bring home with me?

What else will we do during the trip?

On the ship, we will not only learn and sail, but also fish and do research on the direct environment. We will learn about the ocean as a habitat and how we can preserve it. The focus will always be on better use of resources, consumer behaviour and the protection of nature and culture.

We will get to know other cultures, visit indigenous peoples in the rainforest and experience what it means for them when the rainforest is cut down. We will also learn to take responsibility, practise independence and teamwork. The new challenges for me will be: making decisions in extreme situations, navigating with the help of the stars, setting sails at a height of 30 metres, night watches on board, living in confined spaces and resolving conflicts. I will also certainly learn to deal with unpleasant things such as homesickness, storms and seasickness.

But I am looking forward to all of these challenges and can hardly wait!
